Trauma Informed Counselling

Trauma informed therapy provides a framework that is grounded in the therapist’s understanding of both the impact of trauma on an individual’s life, and the appropriate therapeutic responses to process and heal from trauma.

This approach emphasizes the importance of physical, psychological and emotional safety in providing survivors with the opportunity to regain a sense of control and empowerment in their lives.

Symptoms and behaviours that result from trauma are not seen as pathological, but rather are understood as coping strategies that originate from the way individuals adapt to traumatic events. The therapeutic process is approached with a foundational belief that healing can take place and that relief from the impact of trauma is attainable.
