I believe the first step toward change is recognizing the need for it—whether for healing or growth. These processes are not linear and differ across individuals. However, I believe one constant is that we exist to be in relationship—with the self and others. How we function in society is deeply influenced by our perceptions and experiences. We learn, unlearn, and ultimately experience change within relationships. This is my worldview.

My name is Tolu. I am of African descent and currently pursuing an M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Trinity Western University. I was able to gain experience during my practicum, working with an amazing team and supervisor who helped shape my journey. That too was not a linear process but has brought me closer to my desired destination. In therapy, I naturally lean toward Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a way to uncover and understand perceptions developed from experiences within relationships. Given my worldview, I am drawn to attachment theory and have a growing interest in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Beyond the theory and big words, the phrase that says “Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.” is one of the main things I keep in mind. And so I hope to walk with you toward achieving your therapy goals by creating a space you consider safe and by developing a therapeutic relationship that benefits you through care, empathy, compassion, authenticity, and understanding. I see it as a privilege to be part of a journey that is unique to YOU.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope that whatever step you take next brings you closer to what you truly need.
